Selected Works® Promotes Faculty Publication

Selected Works® allows faculty to create and manage their own publication pages, so more peers can find and cite your work. Online access to Selected Works® benefits faculty and school/departments who wish to showcase their research to a wider audience. Laura Hartman, Professor of Management in the College of Commerce, finds
Selected Works® “extremely user friendly and intuitive.” Hartman notes that it does not take much training to use especially if someone is “willing to just meander around the site a little.” Hartman adds that she really likes how customizable Selected Works® is for people with different types of scholarship, from different types of sources. “It allows users to link to either the original publication, if you are permitted by copyright, or simply to provide a link to the publisher’s site, where that is the allowed method of reference. I appreciate having both options. When I have something to add, I can add it, so you do not have to go through several steps to ask someone else to upload something for you, then wait for that to occur.”

Finally, Hartman notes that she uses Selected Works® to track her visibility and finds this added awareness benefits her as a DePaul faculty member. “The site automatically sends a report to all adopters alerting them on a regular basis to how many times their files have been viewed and downloaded. This feature is interesting if folks would like to know the reach they have with their scholarship.”
