DePaul’s institutional repository, Via Sapientiae, saw astonishing growth this quarter. During the three months starting in August, Via had a whopping 80,000 document downloads.
The most downloaded document, Integrating Ethics Across Disciplines: The McDonald’s Case and Poverty Alleviation, authored by Dr. Laura Hartman, Dr. Regina Wolfe and Dr. Patricia Werhane, had 812 downloads.
Coming in at number two, with 732 downloads, was The End of Foreign Aid as We Know It: The Profitable Alleviation of Poverty in A Globalized Economy also a work by Dr. Hartman and Dr. Werhane, plus Dr. Scott Kelley.
And number three, with 703 downloads, came from the Vincentian Heritage Collection, Volume 4, 1933-34, of the DeAndrein, a student newspaper from the Vincentians’ St. Mary’s of the Barrens Seminary, (Perryville, Missouri).
Via also added its first eBook, The Hay Project’s Leading in the Legacy of Vincent de Paul: Reflections on Vincentian Leadership Today. The eBook feature is brand new to Via’s Digital Commons platform, and we look forward to hosting more books from the DePaul community in the near future.
DePaul’s students’ Dissertations and Theses are now being posted online. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has posted its first fifty-one electronic dissertations and theses (ETDs) beginning with the 2009-2010 academic year. The College of Computing and Digital Media has just created its own ETD repository on Via.
Also, we are currently working with Philosophy Today to be our latest journal on Via. The plan is to begin posting their most recent issue, and then import past issues. This online presence is expected to lead to remarkable growth in the journal’s readership and citations since the major search engines all index Via.
