JSTOR & Project MUSE, two of our most heavily used collections, have both announced that they will be adding e-books from university presses to their platforms for 2012. As two of the leading not-for-profit organizations providing full-text scholarly journal content, their support of university presses heralds an exciting development for the future of this content.
JSTOR’s “Books at JSTOR” is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2012. So far, nine university presses have signed on to make their content available through this platform, including Chicago, Minnesota, North Carolina, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and California. All of the book content will be preserved in Portico, a digital archive that provides long-term management for electronic files.
Project MUSE recently merged their original initiative for e-books, Project MUSE Editions, with the University Press e-book Consortium. The result is the University Press Content Consortium and, so far, fifty-one scholarly publishers have signed contracts to make content available through this newly formed group. This content is scheduled to launch on the Project MUSE platform in January 2012 and a beta version of the site is expected to be available this summer.
Both of these initiatives provide new outlets for the dissemination of electronic content from university presses, on platforms that are notable for their user traffic, stability and commitment to the scholarly community. As pricing becomes available, the library will be working with both JSTOR and Project MUSE to add their e-book content into our collections.

Hispanic American Periodicals Index
This online database indexes journal articles about Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, and Hispanics/Latinos in the United States.
Alternative Press Archive Index
Together these resources cover journal, newspaper, and magazine articles from over 300 international alternative, radical, and left periodicals from 1969 through the present.
The New Catholic Encyclopedia
Includes articles on theology, philosophy, history, saints, and musicians; also biographies of contemporary religious figures. Includes the 2nd edition, the jubilee volume (“The Wojtyla Years”) and the supplements for 2009 and 2010.
Encyclopedia of Soils in the Environment
Four-volume online encyclopedia containing articles considering numerous aspects of soil, including its origins, properties, classification, and roles in the biosphere.
