CARLI Provides Expanded E-book Access Through Pilot Program

Ebook Through a pilot project launched in May, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) is now providing member institutions with access to over 29,000 e-books. The collection is comprised of humanities and social science titles from a wide variety of publishers that includes, among others, Bloomsberg Academic, Guilford Publications, Indiana University Press, McGraw-Hill International UK, Morgan & Claypool, Princeton University Press and University of California Press.

The pilot uses a model called Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA), which means CARLI only pays for content when a purchase is triggered through multiple extended user interactions (“loans”) with a title. CARLI will purchase books that are “loaned” more than three times and CARLI members will have perpetual access to these titles even after the pilot ends. CARLI has designated up to $500,000 to pay for loans and purchases that are triggered during this pilot.

Titles that are part of this pilot display in both DePaul’s VuFind Catalog and in WorldCat Local. To view the full collection, please use the following link: http://carli.eblib.com. Once you’ve logged in using your Campus Connection ID and selected DePaul from the dropdown menu, click the “View Full Catalogue” option on the right of the screen.
