Having hosted a reading for Shellko last winter when his first book, <em>Antinomy: A Union of Mind<\/em>, was published, we were pleased to feature him again for our Winter Quarter 2010 author reading.<\/p>\n<p>Reign of Eros explores one man\u2019s search for true love, and we scheduled our Winter Quarter reading for the evening of February 11, 2010, to tie in with Valentine\u2019s Day. Shellko read from several passages in his novel, while carefully explaining the premise of his work throughout his discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Shellko, even while juggling his responsibilities of coursework and research, feels driven to pursue his passion for creative writing, and describes his fiction as experimental. Heavily influenced by Shellko\u2019s interest in classical philosophy, both novels revolve around the quest of the One and the Other, who have a kind of yin and yang relationship, to find each other to form a perfect union. Shellko envisions ten installments in this series, and is currently working on book four.<\/p>\n<p>During Spring Quarter, the Libraries will continue to honor the work of the DePaul community in creative writing, and will host an event to celebrate National Poetry Month in April; look for forthcoming details!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, Kirk Shellko, a professor in the Department of Modern Languages, published his second work of fiction, Reign of Eros.
