DePaul University Library offers faculty access to digital-image collections for use in instruction, research and scholarship. In addition to DePaul’s Digital Collections<\/a>, the Instructional Image Collection launched a new web platform (Luna<\/a>) during Fall Quarter\u00a0 2011 with more than 60,000 images generated at DePaul and includes access to 30+ additional digital-image collections (Luna Commons). Luna allows faculty to search, download and save high quality images to their class presentations or embed items within D2L.<\/p>\n

Michael Donovan, the Library’s Image Collection Supervisor, regularly assists faculty with image collections requests. “I had a faculty member call me recently because she had heard from another colleague that images could be uploaded from Luna straight into PowerPoint. I explained that there was a function to upload a set of images to PowerPoint, but that could only be done using ‘media groups,’ and that single-image downloads were treated differently. Ten minutes later, she came to my office and we had an impromptu training session. By the time she left, she was comfortable collecting images and could add them to her PowerPoint presentations.”<\/p>\n

The Library’s Department of Digitization Services can also be of help to faculty who are simply on the lookout for new images to use in their teaching and research, “Faculty members have contacted me to help them find images of certain cultures, including clothing, objects, and the built environment. The Library’s Department of Digitization Services can assist faculty in finding new image content or improve an image you are working with,” Donovan said. “If you are using the same image of Notre Dame that you have been using for years, we can find a new high-definition image or scan an image of your choice. Another professor needed images of African Zulu clothing, and we found some additional images to provide more representation for students to appreciate.”<\/p>\n
