Who is an authority? Students new to the research process don\u2019t necessarily understand that authority is constructed and contextual, or that the article they found using one of the Library\u2019s EBSCO databases might have originally been published and distributed to an audience of researchers in a very particular context. Students often do not recognize the differences between sources and bring assumptions with regards to what research looks like and how it works.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/faculty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/08\/Not-just-where-to-click.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-20 size-full\" title=\"Not Just Where to Click: Teaching Students How to Think About Information\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/faculty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/08\/Not-just-where-to-click.jpg?resize=199%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Heather Jagman (DePaul University) and Troy Swanson (Moraine Valley Community College)\u2019s new collection,<i> <a href=\"https:\/\/vufind.carli.illinois.edu\/all\/vf\/Record\/15099054\">Not Just Where to Click: Teaching Students How to Think about Information\u200b<\/a><\/i><span class=\"s3\">, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">explores how librarians and faculty can work together to teach students about the nature of expertise, authority, and credibility.\u00a0 Contributing authors provide a variety of <\/span><span class=\"s3\">practical and theoretical approaches <\/span><span class=\"s1\">for motivating students to explore their beliefs, biases, and ways of interpreting the world, and draw from a deep pool of perspectives including social psychology, critical theory, and various philosophical traditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">With the recent adoption by the Association of College &amp; Research Libraries of its new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/acrl\/standards\/ilframework\">\u201cFramework for Information Literacy in Higher Education,\u201d\u200b<\/a>\u00a0<i>Not Just Where to Click<\/i> provides a starting point for librarians and faculty members wishing to explore how to teach about a broader array of information skills that meet the needs of students who will be expected not only to \u201cdiscover\u201d and \u201cevaluate\u201d information for academic purposes, but to \u201ccreate\u201d and \u201ccurate\u201d information throughout their lives.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/library.depaul.edu\/about\/contact-us\/staff-directory\/Pages\/heather-jagman.aspx\">Heather Jagman\u200b<\/a>, Coordinator of Reference, Instruction and Academic Engagement, would love to tell you more about how the library can support the information literacy needs of your students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Not Just Where to Click: Teaching Students How to Think about Information, <\/i>was published in April 2015 by the Association of College and Research Libraries, and is available from the American Library Association\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alastore.ala.org\/detail.aspx?ID=11389%29%20and%20Amazon%20%28http:\/\/amzn.com\/0838987168\">online store\u200b<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s6\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What makes a scholarly article scholarly?
