This October marks the one-year anniversary of Special Collections and Archives\u2019<\/p>\n

debut in\u00a0Newsline <\/em>with a story about DePaul alumna Halloween Martin <\/a>(b. October 31, 1900). The collections in the DePaul University Archives are rich in fascinating details about campus life, traditions, alumni and staff, and column author Jane Connelly has a perfect vantage point for discovering these stories.<\/p>\n

Jane, who\u2019s been an Archives Assistant here since October 2013, works hands on with the university archival materials, arranging, describing, re-housing and making them accessible<\/a> for researchers \u2013 and \u201cresearchers\u201d are the students, faculty and staff at DePaul, as well as the Chicago community and beyond. DePaul students, however, are consistently our most frequent researchers (2\/3 of total researchers the past few years).<\/p>\n

Jane\u2019s creative eye, curiosity, and sense of humor allow her to see how the documents she handles can be put to use as part of a larger story, and Newsline<\/em> readers have responded positively to her stories.<\/p>\n

From analytics supplied by Newsline<\/em>, the average pageview time for the \u201cInto the Archives\u201d department is just above 3 minutes, which suggest that viewers are taking the time the read the stories on topics such as DePaul veterans<\/a>, Christmases Past<\/a>, an all-female DePaulia<\/em><\/a>, freshman advice<\/a>, and alumnus Ray Manzarek<\/a>\u2019s time as a student in the College of Commerce (which was the most viewed story in Newsline for Spring quarter 2015 as well as the 3rd<\/sup> most viewed story of the academic year!).<\/p>\n
