Murphy, a professor in the Department of English, will read from his newest book,<em> Irish Novelists and the Victorian Age <\/em>(Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2011). The reading and reception, will take place at the John T. Richardson Library, Room 300, from 5:30-6:30 PM.Professor Murphy has had a distinguished record of publication.\u00a0 He has authored four books on Irish history and literature, and edited seven; his eighth edited collection, The <em>Oxford History of the Irish Book: volume 4: the Irish Book in English, 1800-90<\/em> is forthcoming later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Oxford University Press describes Murphy&#8217;s Irish Novelists and the Victorian Age as offering &#8220;the first comprehensive study of the neglected Irish writers of the Victorian age, whose work was highly popular with the British reading audience and therefore disparaged and largely forgotten from the era of W.B.
