As phase one of the John T. Richardson Library renovation wraps up in September, the noise of the construction will fade, but preparations for the second and third phases will only just be beginning. During the second phase, the Library\u2019s first floor will be transformed into an information commons with extensive student computing facilities, collaborative workspaces, and our new \u201cScholars\u2019 Lab,\u201d a place to teach and learn using specialized software applications. Phase three will see the creation of \u201cResearch Central,\u201d on the second floor of the library, where librarians will consult with students and faculty and assist with research questions and resources.<\/p>\n
In order to reconfigure the Library space to accommodate these services, we are making substantial changes to the second floor of the Library. Most notably, the majority of our periodicals are being sent to a remote storage facility in Chicago to create space for research support and the media and Chicago collections. The majority of the print periodicals we are sending offsite are also available in electronic format, and we are keeping the most recent 10 years of all of the periodical titles to which we currently subscribe.<\/p>\n
The Library will also offer several convenient ways to retrieve these periodicals from offsite storage or to get articles from them. Periodical volumes can be requested from storage and will be available within one business day. The Library is also piloting an expanded document delivery program and will begin offering electronic delivery of articles to your desktop this fall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
