The Library’s migration to SharePoint continued in April as we formed a new Web Advisory Committee to assist Library Web Services in preparing our current site for the migration that is scheduled to begin in July. We also hired a new Web Applications Librarian who will assist me in my work in modernizing the DPU Libraries’ web services.
The Web Advisory Committee, lovingly referred to as WAC, is composed of representatives of each unit within the library. The committee is modeled after similar structures that have been created by other libraries around the country undergoing similar online renovations, such as the celebrated transformation of the website of the North Carolina State University libraries.
WAC’s mission is to provide a channel for concerns, questions and ideas from across the library organization to reach Web Services during this critical time. The committee’s input is important because its members bring unique experiences and understanding of their respective areas that will help Web Services develop the best way forward.
Meanwhile, I’m happy to report that we filled the new Web Applications Librarian position. The new librarian will be involved in furthering Web Services’ mission to get the DPU Libraries caught with our peer libraries around the country. In general, this position will help leverage the many technological hooks available from our myriad online library systems to bring all our systems into one seamless, task-oriented web experience.
