Last spring, the Library undertook a trial of the clinical information resource “UpToDate” and received an unprecedented amount of positive feedback, including:

Based on the high level of demand and enthusiasm for this resource, the Library began subscription this fall.
So what is UpToDate? It’s a physician-authored resource of evidence-based information intended to support clinical decision-making at the point-of-care. What does that mean to someone outside of the medical profession? It means you can get a detailed overview of a medical condition, and additional valuable health information, that’s continuously updated by experts in the field.
Entries include a detailed introduction, information for patients and a summary & recommendations. UpToDate also provides patient education guides in two different formats: abbreviated “the basics” guides that are written in plain language, and are available in both English and Spanish, or an expanded “beyond the basics” guides that provide more detailed information and tend to employ more technical language.
Faculty and students in health care fields may wish to review the “What’s new” section for their specialty, which highlights new developments in the area. Those working with patients as part of their studies or teaching may also find the drug information and interactions section particularly helpful.
For users on the go, a convenient mobile app is available, which requires account registration within the platform.
