On October 23, 2017, 9 ComEd Scholars from DePaul College Prep High School toured the John T. Richardson Library Maker Hub as part of their visit to campus. Already making use of the DePaul College Prep STEAM Lab as part of their science education, these students and their teachers were introduced to the new library space and the opportunities for maker-centered educational programs now possible across DePaul College Prep and DePaul University as we grow the “DePaul Makes” community.
The DePaul University Library has partnered with DePaul College Prep since 2013, beginning with information literacy programs offered to students preparing for a successful transition to the first year of college, and growing to include programmatic instructional partnerships in support of the International Baccalaureate program. With the launch of the Maker Hub and related DePaul University programs such as the Idea Realization Lab, there are new opportunities to build maker-centered educational programs that bridge the K-20 spectrum and promote student success in STEM and STEM-related fields of study.
ComEd Scholars are students with an interest in STEM and STEM-related fields who are able to attend DePaul College Prep thanks to generous support from ComEd. These students will have the opportunity to continue their education in STEM fields at DePaul University, and will also have access to field-based educational experiences at ComEd.
