I am researching Bride of Frankenstein and Universal Studios. In my assignment, I have been asked about historical context during this time (1935) in Hollywood and in the United States in general.
To begin, try the e-book series American Decades, (volume 4, 1930-1939). It gives an overview of what was going on in American life for each decade. It covers the arts, business and the economy, education, fashion, government and politics, law and justice, lifestyles and social trends, media, medicine and health, religion, science and technology, and sports.
There is also a companion series called American Decades, Primary Sources, (volume 4,1930-1939). Instead of an overview of events, it provides primary sources from the time such as oral histories, songs, speeches, advertisements, TV, play and movie scripts, letters, laws, legal decisions, newspaper articles, cartoons, and recipes.
