Visit Special Collections and Archives

As students settle into the 2024 school year and new staff join DePaul, our corner of the library has had a fair share of curious visitors – allow us to reintroduce ourselves!

Welcome to Special Collections and Archives (SPCA)! Located on the third floor of John T. Richardson Library, SPCA collects, preserves, and shares primary source material documenting the history of DePaul University, Lincoln Park and Chicago, social justice movements and activism, the Catholic left, Vincentian history and much more.

Special Collections and Archives staff are here to help you with your reference and research needs. Student researchers and organization members and leaders, faculty, and local history enthusiasts are just some of the patrons we welcome daily!

Browse our collections online, then stop by! Our Reading Room is open to anyone who wishes to use our material. Due to the nature of our collections, material must be used in the Reading Room, which researchers can visit any time during our open hours. Maximize your time in the Reading Room by registering online and consulting our Reading Room Guidelines prior to your visit.

You can also access a portion of our materials remotely via the DePaul University Library Digital Collections.

If you are unsure of where to start, here are just a few ways to interact with our collections:

If you have any questions, please call us at 773-325-7864, contact us via email, or stop by the reference desk in Room 314, John T. Richardson Library. We look forward to your visit!

Special Collections and Archives supports the teaching and learning mission of the University by providing course-specific instruction, reference services and individual research consultations, and by ensuring access to the rich primary source materials that inform our understandings of self, University, community, and the global society.
