We were busy this summer refreshing our spaces and collections and preparing to welcome you back for a new year! Stop by the DePaul University Library in person or online to get help from our new staff, print your assignment with new black and white printers, find articles in new library databases, or get some work done in a new Solo Booth.
New Solo Booths
You’ll find all kinds of spaces available at the library, from group study rooms and worktables that are ideal for collaborative projects to areas zoned for quiet or silent study. This year we’ve added even more Solo Booths, one of our most popular options for individual study, phone calls, online meetings, or quiet contemplation. Check the Room Reservations page to book one of our six Solo Booths at the John T. Richardson Library or one of our two Solo Booths at the Loop Library, as well as a variety of other spaces. Any space that’s not reserved is always available on a first-come-first-served basis, or just drop by either library location for your choice of comfortable seating, tables, and study carrels.
New Resources

eRead Illinois – We have audiobooks! We are pleased to introduce eRead Illinois via Boundless, where you can access over 45,000 popular e-books and audiobooks using the website or app.- JET Magazine Archive – Explore the full-text archive of Jet Magazine from its first issue in 1951 through 2014; Jet was published weekly in Chicago and covered news, social issues, culture, entertainment and many other topics related to the African American community.
- Pragda Stream – This streaming platform for Spanish, Latin American and Latinx films has over 500 documentaries and feature films from more than 30 countries, all in their original language with English subtitles.
- Business Source Ultimate – We’ve upgraded from Business Source Complete, so you can find even more full-text journals and trade publications in all business-related disciplines, as well as financial data, case studies, company profiles, SWOT analyses, industry reports, market research reports, and more.
- Disability in the Modern World: History of a Social Movement – This online collection of primary sources supports research in disability history and disability studies and provides access to interdisciplinary content from the disability community; read issues of The Disability Rag, view films from Sproutflix celebrating the lives and stories of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or explore historical documents from the Red Cross related to disabled veterans returning home from World War I.
New Tech
When you stop by the Richardson Library this year, you’ll find brand new black and white printers, as well as new color printers, on both the first and second floors. The second floor has also been equipped with new computers and monitors at every workstation.
Our loanable technology collection is also expanding! New this year: check out a Victrola portable turntable, along with recent albums from artists like Chappell Roan or Beyonce. Other items now have longer loan periods of 4 weeks, so you can have more time with a Switch or PS5 and new or classic games from our Video Game Collection at both the Loop and Richardson Library locations. We continue to offer cables, chargers, adapters, headphones, CD/DVD drives, and a variety of other tech items for loan.
New Staff
We’ve recently welcomed new staff to our team across the library from Andrew Brown, Evening Circulation Supervisor at the Richardson Library to Kaiya Schroeder, Reference & Instruction Librarian at the Loop Library. New staff members like Emily Swenson provide research support in Special Collections and Archives, while Jackie Mann helps manage library acquisitions and e-resources and Keith Engwall works with library systems.
