Vinyl is back at the Richardson Library! Hear how your favorite artists sound on vinyl or discover new music when you browse our record collection on the 2nd floor of the John T. Richardson Library. We’ve recently added pop albums from a variety of genres, along with musicals, jazz, Chicago house, classical, and more.
New albums are shelved alongside our original record collection, which was the only option for students in the 70s and 80s until the library started collecting CDs followed by streaming audio! You can still check out some of those original records, which are primarily classical music along with some jazz, popular music, and traditional music from around the world.
Need a record player, too? We also have a few Victrola portable record players available to borrow at the Access Services Desk on the 1st Floor. With rechargeable batteries and bluetooth connectivity, the players provide lots of options for listening to our new records. These are just a few of the albums you’ll find recently added to our collection:
- Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter
- Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar’s desert blues album Funeral for Justice
- Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
- Best Latin Pop Album winner Gaby Moreno’s new album, Dusk
- Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington’s Fearless Movement
- Charli XCX’s Brat
- Broadway cast recording of the 2024 Tony Award-winning musical The Outsiders
And we’re adding new music regularly, so be sure to check back often!
