This Friday, head to the third floor of the John T. Richardson Library for a one day only pop-up exhibit! Special Collections and Archives staff have selected a variety of materials from our collection that explore the ins and outs of love.
Just like our collections, the expressions of love found within our stacks are varied. Visitors can page through dozens of valentines sent to and from a Lincoln Park family in the 1920s and 1930s, as well as a valentine from (then incarcerated) peace activist Elizabeth McAlister to her children.
Literary classics like Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility and Toni Morrison’s Love will be displayed alongside a variety of zines, comics, and artists’ books that examine marriage, gender roles, sexuality, and friendship. Through The DePaulian and other ephemera, DePaul students of yesteryear can be seen filling up each other’s dance cards at the Valentine’s Day dance.
The material will be displayed in the Andrew T. and Alice O. Kopan Seminar Room, which is attached to the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room (JTR 314) on the third floor of Richardson Library.
All are welcome! No registration is required, though we ask that those who plan on touching the material (which is encouraged!) wash their hands prior to the visit. Special Collections and Archives staff may also ask that you place your bag, coat, and any food or drink away from the material.
