While browsing our e-book collections, have you noticed a beta Research Assistant that suggests overviews and key takeaways for books and book chapters? Or a new search mode in our databases that attempts to form complex search strategies from your natural language queries? This summer, the DePaul University Library’s Artificial Intelligence Working Group is testing AI-powered tools available from our database vendors. Our testing criteria is based on the Library’s Generative Artificial Intelligence Values Statement and includes factors like potential biases, ethical and social considerations, and transparency, among others. As of July 22, 2025, AI tools have been turned on for ProQuest Ebook Central and EBSCO databases. We have activated these tools for testing but may choose to deactivate them after testing concludes. We plan to finish testing by the start of Autumn Quarter.
Here is a brief description of the tools we are testing:
ProQuest Ebook Central Research Assistant provides title and chapter-level AI-generated summaries for select e-books.
EBSCO AI Natural Language Search allows you to toggle on a Natural Language Search feature and type in research questions in natural language without having to use keywords and operators such as AND/OR.
EBSCO AI Insights allows you to view AI-generated summaries of select full-text articles.
While we are not formally collecting feedback right now, please Email Us with any questions or comments.
