The DePaul University Library has entered into an open access agreement with Cambridge University Press, which enables DePaul faculty, students, and staff to publish their research in 400+ Cambridge Journals open access (OA) at no cost to the author. That means researchers across the world can access the articles free, without paywall or subscription and authors don’t need to pay an article processing charge (APC). These agreements are commonly referred to as transformative agreements or read and publish agreements. Transformative agreements are a set of terms in a licensing contract between academic libraries and scholarly publishers that are designed to shift costs away from subscription-based reading and toward open access publishing. Each publisher’s terms may be different.
We encourage the DePaul community to take advantage of these agreements to publish open access. Publishing OA has many positive impacts including increasing scholars’ visibility and citations while also promoting research equity and sustainability. According to OpenAlex, from 2020-2025, 41.7% of all publications by DePaul authors were Open Access.
