The DePaul University Library is updating our Loanable Technology Collection! As we prepare to add new equipment, review and repair the current collection, and update check-out procedures, we’d like to share these updates:
Starting June 22nd, long-term loanable technology and accessories, such as video game consoles and cameras, will be unavailable for check out during the summer. Short-term technology, such as phone and laptop chargers, will continue to be available as usual. We expect the full Loanable Technology Collection to return to circulation by August 31st. This step is necessary for library staff to perform a variety of much-needed maintenance tasks on the collection.
Staff will perform a physical review of the items, ensuring that all equipment is complete, in good condition, and fully functional. We’ll also be expanding our offerings by adding new consoles, controllers, cameras, and more (spoiler alert: this includes the Nintendo Switch 2, Canon camera kits and Wacom Intuos Pro tablets!).
In addition to physical maintenance tasks, staff will review and update internal procedures for managing long term loanable equipment with the goals of simplifying and speeding up the check out/check in process, improving the ability of users to browse the collection and determine item availability, and ensuring equitable access to the collection for all DePaul users.
While we understand that this period of unavailability may be inconvenient, we are confident that our planned changes will be a huge improvement to the collection and help to resolve some common issues and requests that we receive related to long-term loanable technology.
