The library is very excited to announce some big changes to our Loanable Technology collection. Read on for details about all the updates you can expect this fall, including:
- A brand new system for browsing long-term loanable tech items available at both the Richardson Library and the Loop Library
- Online bookings up to one month in advance
- An expanded collection with new items such as Switch 2 consoles, Neo Macbooks, mini projectors, and noise cancelling headphones, as well as even more favorites like PS5 consoles and laptop chargers.
Starting with Fall Quarter 2026, we’ll be launching a new system for managing our long-term loanable technology items such as gaming consoles, cameras, and record players. This new system offers a greatly improved browsing experience with item images and detail pages for both the Richardson Library and the Loop Library. Not only does the system make it much easier to see what items we have and what those items include, it also makes item availability much clearer and allows users to create a booking up to one month in advance! Walk up bookings are still available, too. As part of these updates, we are also reducing the maximum borrowing time for long-term loanable technology to two weeks to ensure everyone gets the opportunity to utilize the collection.
In addition to our new system, we’ve also expanded the loanable technology collection itself, stocking up on old favorites and making some exciting new additions. We’ve added multiple new PS5 consoles to boost availability across campuses and managed to get our hands on a couple of Switch 2 consoles. We now have 10 MacBook Neo laptops with preinstalled applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, & Illustrator. And we’ve nearly doubled the number of phone and laptop chargers at each campus and added other helpful tools such as active noise canceling headphones, presentation clickers, and mini projectors that’ll turn any study room wall into a shared screen!
