It has been a while since we’ve welcomed new colleagues to the Library staff! I asked each of them a few questions to introduce themselves and they graciously replied! Read below to see their responses:<\/p>\n

When did you start and what is your title?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Liz Becker:<\/strong> I started in October 2021 as one of the new Access Services Desk Supervisors that covers nights and weekends!<\/p>\n

Abigail Evans:\u00a0<\/strong>I started as the Acquisitions Financial Assistant on November 15th. I am responsible for making sure library materials are received and paid for in a timely manner.<\/p>\n

Rebekah Otto:<\/strong> Technically, I started my journey at DePaul as a Critical Ethnic Studies MA student in 2020 and began working at the library as a student assistant the same year. I transitioned to a part-time Archives Assistant role in Special Collections and Archives in November 2021.<\/p>\n

Erin Roux:<\/strong> I am the weekend circulation supervisor in the Loop. I started in November of 2021. When I was a DePaul Student, I was a student circulation assistant at JTR from December 2017-December 2019.<\/p>\n

Grace Spiewak:<\/strong> I started January 24 as the Health Sciences Librarian. [Addition: This includes liaison responsibilities for faculty outreach, research support, library instruction and collection management across DePaul\u2019s expanding range of health-related programs.]<\/em><\/p>\n

What were you up to before joining us at DePaul?<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Liz:\u00a0<\/strong>Before coming on as a supervisor, I graduated in June 2021 with my B.A. in Art History from DePaul. I actually worked all four years of my undergrad as an Access Services Student Worker (most often in Reserves), so if I look at all familiar that\u2019s probably why! I\u2019m so happy to be back with this team.<\/p>\n

Abigail:<\/strong> I moved to Chicago in July 2019 after graduating from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in English and Creative Writing (and a Music minor & Publishing Certificate). I was a student worker at the University of Iowa library, and I really enjoyed my time there! After moving here, I worked at the Book Cellar in Lincoln Square until getting this job at DePaul.<\/p>\n

Rebekah:<\/strong> Before DePaul, I was completing a year of service with AmeriCorps in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I was a 10th Grade STEM Tutor and eventually a Social Emotional Learning Team Leader for middle school students. These positions deeply informed my research interests and the perspective I bring to the archives.<\/p>\n

Erin: <\/strong>I graduated from DePaul with a B.A. in English fall 2019 and started working at a Trader Joe’s right before the pandemic started and right up until I started working here in the Loop! It has been quite a tone shift!<\/p>\n

Grace: <\/strong>I graduated from Creighton University in 2019 with a B.A. in Classical Languages, and from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2020 with an M.S. in Library and Information Science.\u00a0 Before coming to DePaul, I was the Instructional Services Librarian at Aurora University.<\/p>\n

Do you have any pets?<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Liz:<\/strong> My girlfriend, Jeorgie, and I have two cats: Cat Stevens and Twiggy. Cat Stevens is an orange tabby cat with 3 legs and Twiggy is a tiny 7-lb ball of calico fluff. They love taking naps together before chasing each other up and down our apartment hallway.<\/p>\n

Abigail:\u00a0<\/strong>I do! I have a cat, Basil. She is a gray tabby and turns 4 this month. I see more pets in my future (but I think Basil secretly likes being an only child).<\/p>\n

Rebekah:<\/strong> I do not have any pets currently but I am a proud cactus mom! I hope to get a hypoallergenic pet soon.<\/p>\n

Erin:<\/strong> I have a little black kitty named Bellatrix (like from Harry Potter<\/em>). She is five and has the same mischievous spirit as the fictional character.<\/p>\n

Grace:\u00a0<\/strong>No pets [yet? :)]<\/em><\/p>\n

Where is your favorite spot to go in Chicago? Food, museums, beaches, or otherwise?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Liz:\u00a0<\/strong>Chicago is such a food city to me and I LOVE to eat. My favorite go-to\u2019s are: Lonesome Rose<\/a> in Logan Square for queso and massive burritos, Pastores + Brunch<\/a> in Lincoln Square for the best chicken and waffles, and any of the First Slice Pie<\/a> locations for some amazing seasonal pie slices.<\/p>\n

Abigail:<\/strong> I live near the lake, so I love going there all the time for walks, reading, and relaxing. Also random, but Gethsemane<\/a>\u2019s (plant store in Andersonville) is awesome (even if I can only keep 50% of my plants alive).<\/p>\n

Rebekah:<\/strong> There are so many special spots in Chicago but I think my favorite is the lake. I also love exploring Chicago\u2019s many vegan eateries and have become a little too obsessed with Beacon Doughnuts<\/a> (a spectacular vegan doughnut spot a short stop from the Richardson library).<\/p>\n

Erin:<\/strong> Loyola Beach!<\/a> It’s my favorite place to go in the summer and it doesn’t even feel like you’re in the city.<\/p>\n

Grace:\u00a0<\/strong>Some of my favorite places in Chicago are the Modern Wing of the Art Institute<\/a> and Sox park.\u00a0 I love to roller blade, bike, and run in the forest preserves and on the lakefront path.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re on campus, where can your colleagues find you if they want to stop by and say hi?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Liz:\u00a0<\/strong>If I\u2019m on campus you can definitely find me either at the Access Services Desk or back in the 101 suite! Or occasionally you can find me wandering the aisles of the Fullerton Whole Foods with a box of frozen croissant dough in my hands.<\/p>\n

Abigail:\u00a0<\/strong>When I am in the library I am in the tech services office on the 2nd floor.<\/p>\n

Rebekah:<\/strong> I can typically be found in the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room or attending a night class in Arts and Letters.<\/p>\n

Erin:\u00a0<\/strong>Loop Access Services Desk!<\/p>\n

Grace:<\/strong> I am in the JTR Library Suite 211.<\/p>\n

Anything else you’d like to say to introduce yourself?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Liz: <\/strong>I\u2019m currently pursuing my MLIS! I haven\u2019t picked my program yet (I\u2019m still waiting for all of those dreaded acceptance letters) but I\u2019ll be starting online in Fall 2022. I\u2019m really looking forward to pursuing a library career while getting to care for the DePaul community. But in terms of \u201cfun facts\u201d, I love rugmaking, indoor gardening, and anything in the horror genre.<\/p>\n

Abigail:\u00a0<\/strong>I have probably included enough fun facts already [never enough fun facts]<\/em>, but I love eating pasta, painting, and parodying songs.<\/p>\n

Rebekah:\u00a0<\/strong>I am always happy to talk about my research, vegan eats, and new spots to explore in Chicago!<\/p>\n

Erin:\u00a0<\/strong>I love reading, writing, and libraries! I volunteered at libraries during my summers as a teen and apparently just couldn’t get enough!<\/p>\n

Grace:\u00a0<\/strong>I currently live in my hometown of Park Ridge and love spending time with my five younger siblings and parents.\u00a0 I have been volunteering as a tutor in adult literacy programs since college and am also involved with Metro Achievement Center’s after-school program for girls in the West Loop.<\/p>\n
