This year the DePaul University Library is collaborating with the Student Government Association (SGA) to celebrate the spirit of Open Education Week (OE Week 2022).\u00a0 OE Week was inaugurated by <\/span>OE Global<\/span><\/a> in 2012 to designate an annual time to honor and champion open education, open educational resources (OER), and open practices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our institution\u2019s mission states that \u201c<\/span>Since its founding in 1898, DePaul University has remained dedicated to making education accessible to all, with special attention to including underserved and underrepresented communities.\u201d<\/span>1<\/span>\u00a0 The University\u2019s 2024 Strategic Plan further prioritized this commitment in Strategic Priority 4.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Expand access to a portfolio of high-quality, affordable academic programs that meet student, workforce, and societal needs. Within this priority, the relevant specific goal is 4.4: Improve affordability and increase the transparency and predictability of students\u2019 educational cost which is supported by action F. to provide support for faculty to explore and experiment with ways to access more affordable course materials.<\/span>2<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Open educational resources and open education are tools and practices that DePaul faculty can adopt to collaboratively break down barriers to student success and achieve this strategic plan priority. The Library and SGA decided to address affordability and access challenges for students with daily library blog posts and a corresponding social media campaign during OE Week 2022. Please visit the <\/span>library blog<\/span><\/a> or follow us on the Library\u2019s and SGA\u2019s social media accounts through the hashtag <\/span>#OEWeekDePaul to celebrate with us.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
