Brooks traces a century of women musicians from Bessie Smith to Beyonc\u00e9, as well as music critics, audiences,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0collectors, and labels<\/span>. She draws on her own experiences to inspire women of color activists in self-advocacy, leadership and staying motivated in the continuing fight for social change.<\/p>\n<p>And keep reading with these
