\"Illinois<\/a>On April 29, the DePaul University Library and the College of Dupage Library co-hosted the 20th Annual <\/span>Illinois Information Literacy Summit<\/span><\/a>. This event would not have been possible without generous support from Moraine Valley Community College, the hosts of the Summit for the first 19 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

The theme of this year\u2019s Summit was \u201cExpanding the Conversation: Digital, Media, and Civic Literacies In and Out of the Library,\u201d reflecting the critical importance of these concepts in our contemporary understanding of information literacy. The keynote speaker was <\/span>Dr. Miriam Sweeney<\/span><\/a>, Associate Professor in the School of Library & Information Studies at the University of Alabama. Dr. Sweeney\u2019s keynote, \u201c<\/span>Facing Our Computers: Algorithmic Literacies as Praxis<\/span><\/a>,\u201d set the tone for a day full of thought provoking presentations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Presenters from across the country shared their perspectives on topics ranging from accounting for <\/span>bias filters<\/span><\/i><\/a> and the <\/span>hostile media effect<\/span><\/i><\/a> when evaluating information to understanding the relationship between<\/span> propaganda and the attention economy<\/span><\/i><\/a> and challenging <\/span>disinformation about the Black Lives Matter movement<\/span><\/i><\/a>. Attendees learned about the <\/span>critical cataloging project underway in Chicago Public Schools<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span>innovative approaches to voter engagement<\/span><\/i><\/a> at Indiana University-Bloomington, a <\/span>collaborative podcast as a digital media literacy teaching tool<\/span><\/i><\/a> at Northeastern Illinois University, and much more.<\/span><\/p>\n
