We\u2019ve got you covered! Explore the world of TTRPGs with resources from the DePaul University Library.<\/p>\n

What are TTRPGs?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Just as it sounds, TTRPGs are a type of role playing game played on tabletop. Games can be played in-person with pen and paper, though there are plenty of options to play online with sites like Roll 20<\/a> or on platforms with video capabilities like Discord, Google Meet, or Zoom. TTRPGs are often said to be played in the \u201ctheater of the mind.\u201d Players develop characters to adventure through various story settings and the success or failure of actions depends on the game\u2019s rule system, often using a set of dice.<\/p>\n

Dungeons & Dragons<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>Our collection includes the core rulebooks:\u00a0The Player\u2019s Handbook<\/a>,\u00a0Monster Manual<\/a>, and\u00a0Dungeon Master\u2019s Guide<\/a>. If you\u2019re ready to try your hand at an adventure, check out\u00a0Rolled and Told Volume 1<\/a> and\u00a0Volume 2<\/a>, a collection of one-shots which can be played in one 3-4 hour session. Want to go all in on a multi-session campaign?\u00a0Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel<\/a>, an anthology of 14 adventures written entirely by a team of BIPOC authors, provides great material for an ongoing campaign.<\/p>\n

Beyond Dungeons & Dragons<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>There\u2019s more in the realm of TTRPGs than Dungeons & Dragons! Various rule systems exist that range from more simplistic to more complex. One such example is\u00a0Coyote & Crow<\/a>, a game set in an alternate future where colonization never happened in the Americas, which was created and led by a team of Natives. Our collection also includes rule books for games like\u00a0Thirsty Sword Lesbians<\/a> and Advanced Lovers and Lesbians<\/a>, described as \u201ca role-playing game for telling queer stories with friends.\u201d Sleepaway<\/a> is a horror game about a \u201cgroup of summer camp counselors protecting their queer youth from a monstrous cryptid,\u201d and Inspirisles<\/a> promotes storytelling and deaf awareness as you play as teens gifted with extraordinary powers.<\/p>\n

Start Playing<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>One of the barriers people face when starting out with TTRPGs is figuring out who to play with as well as learning the rules! DeRPG (DePaul Role-Playing Games)<\/a> is an on-campus student organization which seeks to create a safe, fun and engaging environment for the tabletop gaming community at DePaul. There\u2019s also many beginner friendly games around the city at locations such as\u00a0Chicago Role-Players Guild<\/a>,\u00a0Stay and Play Game Cafe<\/a>, and\u00a0Bonus Round Game Cafe<\/a>. If you\u2019re visiting conventions like\u00a0C2E2<\/a>, they also offer opportunities to sign up for one-shot games.<\/p>\n
