{"id":1235,"date":"2013-09-25T16:05:15","date_gmt":"2013-09-25T16:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/?p=1235"},"modified":"2015-12-16T18:47:48","modified_gmt":"2015-12-16T18:47:48","slug":"read-depaul-university-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/2013\/09\/25\/read-depaul-university-library\/","title":{"rendered":"READ @ DePaul University Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DePaul University Library has launched a variety of new initiatives in recent years to support recreational reading and to promote greater awareness of literacy initiatives across the university, including <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.depaul.edu\/content.php?pid=276721&amp;sid=2421491\" target=\"_blank\">Unwind the Mind: Popular Reading Collection<\/a>, \u201cpop-up shops\u201d promoting reading during breaks in the academic calendar, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.depaul.edu\/presidentsbookclub\" target=\"_blank\">President\u2019s Book Club research guides<\/a>. Beginning this year, the library will collaborate with DePaul faculty, staff, and students to launch a new campaign encouraging members of the DePaul community to \u201cREAD @ the library.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Based on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/mediapresscenter\/factsheets\/alacelebrity\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cCelebrity READ\u201d<\/a> campaign sponsored by the American Library Association since 1980, DePaul\u2019s READ campaign will feature \u201clocal celebrities\u201d sharing works that have been especially important to them. \u201cCelebrity READ\u201d posters have featured artists and athletes, including Bill Cosby, Julia Stiles, Yao Ming, and Chicago\u2019s own Common, as well as scientists and innovators, including Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates. For DePaul\u2019s initial series of READ posters, the University Library is proud to collaborate with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.depaulbluedemons.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">DePaul Athletics<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/svdpp\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Society of Vincent de Paul Professors<\/a> to feature DePaul coaches, student athletes, and award-winning faculty. Do you have a friend, classmate, teammate, co-worker, or professor who you believe should be featured on a DePaul University Library READ poster? If you do, you can nominate him or her by completing the form below.
