The DePaul University Library employs over 20 student staff members across various departments. Students are essential to the Library\u2019s daily operations – they are the minds behind processing library materials, assisting patrons with their research, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for the DePaul community. The Library is fortunate to have such a passionate, brilliant, and determined student team. In order to celebrate them for the unique individuals they are, we asked our students to recommend a book, video game, movie, or album that they believe everyone <\/b>would enjoy.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Madeline<\/a><\/p>\n

“McCarthy’s final novels encompass the last heartbeats of his legendary narrative style and his unique detailing of character voice in a heart-wrenching tale of loss, math, and the legacy of the Manhattan Project. G\u00f6del’s Incompleteness Theorems shine through in these counterpart novels’ linked saga of unfulfilled incompleteness in the fates of Bobby and Alicia Western.<\/p>\n

Detransition, Baby<\/a> is an intimate and well-realized dive into a deeply vulnerable place of the lives of three women who find themselves in their mid-thirties \u2014 and a workplace dalliance. The stories of Reese, Katrina, and Ames collide amidst Peters’ liberal detailing of their backgrounds and the means by which the three react to Katrina’s pregnancy, and the storied pasts of Reese and Ames, whose gender transitions bled different colors in their hearts.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Brooke<\/a><\/p>\n

“As a senior in the Game Design Program, I would recommend Fallout 4<\/a> from our video game collection. This is one of my favorite games and I put hundreds of hours into it.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Ash<\/a><\/p>\n

“I love Elden Ring<\/a> for the game play, the world, the music, and the challenging boss fights.<\/p>\n

[God of War<\/a>] is another favorite because of the emotional story, the music, and just how fun the combat is.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Anna<\/a><\/p>\n

“Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe<\/a> is near and dear to my heart. It was the first book I ever read that I wanted to reread over and over. The language and stories in this book are poetic and a testament to the gay and immigrant experiences. It’s humorous and pulls on your heartstrings. I could not recommend this book more.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Maria<\/a><\/p>\n

“[Leadership Step by Step<\/a>] is a practical guide that breaks down the process of becoming an effective leader into actionable steps. Drawing from his experience as an educator and entrepreneur, Spodek presents a series of exercises and activities designed to develop key leadership skills such as communication, empathy, and decision-making. Through a combination of theory and hands-on practice, readers are encouraged to cultivate their leadership style and approach, ultimately empowering them to lead confidently and authentically. The book emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, reflection, and continuous learning in becoming a successful leader.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Yas<\/a><\/p>\n

“Not only a major motion picture, Dune<\/a> is also a classic science fiction book (one of my favorite genres of literature) and a space opera. I enjoy that the story feels reminiscent of Ancient Greek epics and plays. But what’s most captivating to me is the timeless and relevant commentary on environmentalism and the critique on colonialism.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Ember<\/a><\/p>\n

“[Stella<\/a>] is a wonderful play, a quick read, and a good history lesson. Beautifully written and plays with form and time. 10\/10.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Joe<\/a><\/h3>\n

“The sequel to 2018\u2019s God of War soft reboot, God of War: Ragnarok<\/a> is an exceptional video game. From its engaging gameplay to its memorable story about fate, forgiveness and redemption, players will experience a modern masterpiece made by an incredible developer working at the top of their craft.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"Zoe<\/a><\/p>\n

“I love [Red Clocks<\/a>] because it portrays a wide variety of complex female characters at different stages in their lives who, because of the harsh restrictions placed on reproductive rights (which are eerily similar to our current situation), are forced to confront motherhood. It is heartbreaking, beautiful, and empowering while also being deeply urgent with respect to current events. It is like a Handmaid’s Tale set in our present society and I could not put it down.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
