Over the course of the past year, we have welcomed a few new colleagues to the DePaul University Library! To get to know them better, I asked each of them a couple of questions. After getting to know Bryce, Tori, Claire, and Devon, keep an eye out for a second installment of New Faces at the Library where we’ll be featuring several additional members of our team!<\/p>\n

Bryce Lucas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

When did you start at DePaul? What is your job title and your responsibilities?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryce Lucas:<\/strong> I started in September of 2024, so I just celebrated one year at DePaul! I work part-time as the Billing Assistant in Access Services, meaning I mainly help patrons resolve fines and fees on their account.<\/p>\n

Tori Carl:<\/strong> I started as the new Evening Circulation supervisor in late August of this year! I work in Access Services, helping to manage our team of student assistants and assist the functioning of the department; additionally, I\u2019m the primary supervisor for our midnight shifts \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Claire Marshall:<\/strong> I started October 7th, 2024. I am the Digital Archivist in Special Collections and Archives, and I manage our born-digital and digitized records.<\/p>\n

Tori Carl<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Devon Rinn Jacobson:<\/strong> I started in August of 2025 as an Access Services Assistant at the John T. Richardson Library. I work the Access Services front desk, assist in supervising student workers, and help out as needed on any projects in the department.<\/p>\n

Where were you before joining the DePaul University Library?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lucas:<\/strong> Prior to starting at DePaul, I had been managing a pair of connected bookstores in Hyde Park (57th Street Books & the Seminary Co-op Bookstore). I started that work in 2016 as a part-time bookseller and, over the course of my tenure, worked in nearly every part of the store, including coursebooks, front-and-backlist buying, and its short-lived podcast.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> Before joining DePaul, I was the Digital Asset Manager at the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n

Devon<\/strong>: Before DePaul, I was in undergrad at Beloit College and worked as the InfoDesk Assistant, Interlibrary Loan Assistant, and Archives Assistant for the Col. Robert Morse Library.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite hobby or thing to do in Chicago?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryce:<\/strong> I, unsurprisingly, love reading and everything connected to books. Beyond that, I watch a lot of soccer (a\u00a0lot<\/i>\u00a0of soccer–I’m watching soccer as I type this) and I go to as many concerts as I can.<\/p>\n

Tori:<\/strong> I really love trying out new coffee shops. I\u2019m a big caffeine guy in the first place, and I love a cozy space. My favorite is still The Brewed, a horror themed coffee shop in Logan Square!<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> My favorite things to do in Chicago are find new places to eat and walk around and take in all the architecture. I love the seeing the architectural shifts from one neighborhood to another!<\/p>\n

Devon:<\/strong> I am still getting to know Chicago, but I definitely am enjoying how much there is to do on any given day. So far, I have been exploring the various live music scenes and have had a lot of fun just checking out all the shows!<\/p>\n

What is a favorite book, film, video game, etc. that is available in the Library catalog?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Bryce:<\/strong> I recently read\u00a0Pedro\u00a0P\u200ba\u0301ramo<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>by Juan Rulfo for the first time and thought it was incredible. I wish I had read about it in a library blog post earlier, so trying to do my part to prevent the same happening to you. (The truest answer is that Moby-Dick\u00a0<\/i>is my favorite thing and we have myriad versions of the\u00a0book<\/a>,\u00a0film<\/a>,\u00a0opera<\/a>, and\u00a0inspired poems<\/a>\u00a0to choose from).<\/p>\n

Tori:<\/strong> Spir<\/a>ited Away<\/a>! We have a pretty solid selection of Studio Ghibli films, but Spirited Away will always be my favorite.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> I couldn’t say I have a favorite item, necessarily; however, I’m really partial to the Sr. Helen Prejean papers<\/a>, especially her email inbox, and the St. Vincent’s College, Cape Girardeau records, as those are some of the documents I’ve worked closest with during my time here.<\/p>\n

Devon:<\/strong> It\u2019s pretty hard for me to pick a favorite, but I just recently finished Horizon Zero Dawn<\/a> which the Richardson and Loop Library both have in their video games collections. To pair with the cyberpunk theme, Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro<\/a> is a book I finished semi-recently and really enjoyed!<\/p>\n

Any family or pets you wish to brag about?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryce:<\/strong> My parents are ruled by a small dog named Chibi.<\/p>\n

Tori:<\/strong> I have two nieces \ud83d\ude42 Kyoung turned 3 this year, and Char Lee will be 2 in a few months.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> Alas, no pets. But I did earlier this year help rescue a pigeon with a broken wing that I found behind my apartment building.<\/p>\n

Devon:<\/strong> My roommate and I adopted an orange Siberian cat named Sunkist almost a year ago! He\u2019s just a big, weird teddy bear who likes being held.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
