To be completely honest, the last video game I bought was “Earthworm Jim” for Sega Genesis – so I was surprised at how intrigued I was by Tom Bissell’s new book Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter<\/em><\/a>. In this part memoir – part cultural critique, Bissell confronts his owns addictions while making a convincing argument for video games-as-art. The new book TIME: The Illustrated History of the World’s Most Influential Magazine<\/a><\/em> examines TIME’s<\/em> coverage of the moon landing, the Vietnam War, September 11th, and other events that shaped our lives. In his new book, What Is Happening to News<\/em><\/a>, Pulitzer Prize winner and former journalist from the Chicago Tribune <\/em>Jack Fuller offers a unique explanation to this problem. Fuller argues that the Information Age has had a dramatic impact on the human brain; so much so that we respond far better to sensational journalism than to well-reasoned and objective reporting.
