{"id":264,"date":"2014-01-10T16:53:06","date_gmt":"2014-01-10T16:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/?p=264"},"modified":"2017-05-02T10:10:11","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T16:10:11","slug":"bloomberg-terminals-and-african-fiction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/2014\/01\/10\/bloomberg-terminals-and-african-fiction\/","title":{"rendered":"Bloomberg Terminals and African Fiction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although we started the winter quarter with a horribly cold snow day, there were still plenty of reference questions at the library <a href=\"https:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/category\/this-week-in-reference\/\">This Week in Reference<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>You might guess that the most frequently asked question was: \u201cDo you have my textbook?\u201d \u2013 and you\u2019d be correct!\u00a0However, we also answered many more complex questions in person about things like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Theories of Health Care Policy<\/li>\n<li>Galileo and the Church<\/li>\n<li>Young Peoples\u2019 attitudes toward death<\/li>\n<li>1963 public school boycott<\/li>\n<li>History of Spain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And, questions from IM included:<\/p>\n<p>A student asked if DePaul subscribed to any databases that would provide yields of specifically rated bonds.\u00a0A librarian directed the student to the Bloomberg terminals as the best source for that information, and provided instructions on how to sign up for use.<\/p>\n<p>A student wanted to find a work of fiction about Africa, written by a writer from Africa.\u00a0A librarian searched through the catalog with the keywords: \u201cAfrica\u201d and \u201cfiction\u201d and then did some research on the authors to find their nationalities. The DePaul library has quite a few titles that fit this description, including: \u00a0<em>Life and a Half\u00a0<\/em>by Sony Labou Tansi, <em>Passage of Tears<\/em>\u00a0by Abdourahman A. Waberi and <em>Say You\u2019re One of Them <\/em>by Uwem Akpan.<\/p>\n<p>A patron wanted to find a list of all the recordings of Palestrina\u2019s Pope Marcellus Mass held by the library. The librarian advised the searcher to use the classic catalog and to set the limit to music recordings under Primary Format. \u00a0After trying \u00a0a search for Palestrina as an author word, and \u201cPope Marcellus\u201d as a keyword at first, the librarian found more recordings using the alternate: \u201cPapae Marcelli\u201d instead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although we started the winter quarter with a horribly cold snow day, there were still plenty of reference questions at the library This Week in Reference!
