Welcome to the first installment of\u00a0our\u00a0monthly series highlighting authors\u00a0in our Unwind the Mind: Popular Reading Collection. \"lafayetteinthesomewhatunitedstates\"<\/a>This month\u2019s featured writer\u00a0is Sarah Vowell. You may recognize Vowell\u2019s name from This American Life<\/a>\u00a0or as the voice of Violet Parr from Disney\u2019s The Incredibles<\/a>\u00a0but she is also\u00a0the bestselling author of six humorous nonfiction books dealing with American history and culture. \u00a0Her previous books include\u00a0Unfamiliar Fishes<\/a>\u00a0and The Partly Cloudy Patriot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vowell calls herself a \u201cnarrative nonfiction wise guy,\u201d and the library’s newest Unwind the Mind\u00a0acquisition,\u00a0Lafayette in the Somewhat United States,<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>supports that\u00a0proclamation. Vowell’s take on the days of the Revolutionary War\u00a0is certainly\u00a0not the history you were taught in grade school.\u00a0She uses humor to present a story of our country’s not necessarily\u00a0united past that is both eye-opening and engaging.<\/p>\n
