Illinois residents who are recipients of the Spectrum Scholarship may also receive a grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ila.org\/about\/awards\/sylvia-murphy-williams-award\" target=\"_blank\">Sylvia Murphy Williams Fund<\/a>, given by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ila.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Illinois Library Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/april_crop-copysm.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3805 size-medium\" title=\"April Hummons\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/april_crop-copysm-250x300.jpg?resize=250%2C300\" alt=\"april_crop copysm\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/april_crop-copysm.jpg?resize=250%2C300&amp;ssl=1 250w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/april_crop-copysm.jpg?w=481&amp;ssl=1 481w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Hummons has worked at the DePaul University Library for 16 years.\u00a0While a full time staff member, she obtained\u00a0a\u00a0master&#8217;s degree in Digital Cinema\u00a0and is now pursuing a second master&#8217;s degree from\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gslis.dom.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dominican University Graduate School of Library and Information Science<\/a>. Hummons\u00a0plans to specialize\u00a0in digital services\u00a0or knowledge management.<\/p>\n<p>The DePaul University Library maintains an active engagement with professional education programs in the state through the provision of field experience opportunities in areas such as <a href=\"http:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/2016\/06\/01\/digital-archives-preserving-the-digital-past-part-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">digital preservation<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/faculty\/2014\/02\/28\/practicum-student-provides-subject-expertise\/\" target=\"_blank\">reference and instructional services<\/a>, and several of our staff members have pursued graduate degrees in Library and Information Science as part of their professional development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April Hummons, Circulation Desk Supervisor in the DePaul University Library\u2019s Access Services Department, has been named a Spectrum Scholar for 2016-17 by the American Library Association.
