Holtschneider, C.M., re-affirmed the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/president\/speeches-and-communications\/2016-17\/Pages\/Executive-Order-on-Immigration-.aspx\">strong support for all members of the DePaul community<\/a>\u00a0affected by the Trump Administration\u2019s executive order on immigration. DePaul\u2019s support for its international students, scholars, and staff is consistent with its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/general-counsel\/services\/immigration\/Pages\/dream-resources.aspx\">support for its undocumented students<\/a>, as well its historic commitment to being\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.insightintodiversity.com\/founded-on-social-justice-depaul-serves-as-a-haven-for-students-of-all-backgrounds-and-faiths\/\">an institution of higher education open to all<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The DePaul University Library draws its commitment to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/library.depaul.edu\/about\/about-the-library\/Pages\/Our-Mission.aspx\">values<\/a>\u00a0of diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility not just from the University, but from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/advocacy\/intfreedom\/statementspols\/corevalues\">core values of our profession<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/advocacy\/intfreedom\/librarybill\">Library Bill of Rights<\/a>, which reminds us that \u201c[a] person\u2019s right to use a library should not be denied or abridged because of origin, age, background, or views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/press-releases\/2017\/01\/ala-opposes-new-administration-policies-contradict-core-values\">American Library Association, <\/a>the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/press-releases\/2017\/01\/acrl-board-directors-affirms-commitment-equity-diversity-inclusion-access\">Association of College &amp; Research Libraries,<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.archivists.org\/statements\/saa-statement-on-executive-order-restricting-entry-into-the-united-states-by-individuals-\">Society of American Archivists<\/a> have all issued strong statements this week in support of our professional commitments to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access to information through our\u00a0libraries. Libraries serve all members of our community, and, as ACRL noted, academic libraries play a critical role on campus as an \u201cinclusive learning environment . . . in which diverse and divergent viewpoints can be shared and exchanged.\u201d In these challenging times, the DePaul University Library renews its commitments to its core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as to its stated <a href=\"http:\/\/library.depaul.edu\/about\/about-the-library\/Pages\/Our-Mission.aspx\">mission <\/a>to \u201c[sustain] the intellectual, creative, and social passions of our students, faculty, and staff as we work together to advance the goals of a more just, ethical, and diverse global society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To this end, DePaul faculty and librarians will take part in a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/publish.illinois.edu\/projectwelcome\/summit\/program\/\">summit meeting<\/a>\u201d next week on libraries serving refugees and asylum seekers sponsored by the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs. Later this month, the library will host\u00a0a talk by James LaRue, Director of the American Library Association\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/offices\/oif\">Office of Intellectual Freedom<\/a>, as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/diversity\/action-plan\/race-and-free-speech-series\/Pages\/default.aspx\">President\u2019s Series on Race and Free Speech<\/a>\u00a0(co-sponsored by the Center for Identity, Inclusion, and Social Change).<\/p>\n<p>True to its mission, the DePaul University Library will continue to be a sanctuary for all members of the DePaul community, and to build programs in partnerships with our campus colleagues in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/diversity\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/student-affairs\/about\/departments\/Pages\/omss.aspx\">Office of Multicultural Student Success<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/student-affairs\/about\/departments\/Pages\/cip.aspx\">Center for Identity, Inclusion, and Social Change<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/offices.depaul.edu\/global-engagement\/student-resources\/student-services\/Pages\/default.aspx\">International Student and Scholar Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, DePaul University President Dennis H.
