{"id":579,"date":"2015-04-10T16:31:58","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T16:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/?p=579"},"modified":"2016-03-03T20:18:55","modified_gmt":"2016-03-03T20:18:55","slug":"national-library-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/2015\/04\/10\/national-library-week\/","title":{"rendered":"National Library Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DePaul University Library is committed to student success at DePaul!\u00a0 Recent research shows that students who make use of library resources and services are more likely to stay in school and get better grades!<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In recognition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/conferencesevents\/celebrationweeks\/natlibraryweek\">National Library Week<\/a>, we&#8217;d like to highlight some of our numerous services specifically designed to enhance student&#8217;s lives and provide building blocks for academic success at DePaul.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/04\/VAL-Poster-3-v1-2014.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-636\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/04\/VAL-Poster-3-v1-2014.jpg?resize=500%2C749\" alt=\"Librarians can Help Poster\" width=\"500\" height=\"749\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/04\/VAL-Poster-3-v1-2014.jpg?w=686&amp;ssl=1 686w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/04\/VAL-Poster-3-v1-2014.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/04\/VAL-Poster-3-v1-2014.jpg?resize=683%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"unitRight insertImg size1of2\"><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;re keeping it fresh!\u00a0 We continually add new academic books to our shelves and expand our offering of <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.depaul.edu\/ebooks\">electronic books<\/a> to support the curriculum.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/dpulibrarian\/unwind-the-mind-collection\/\">popular reading<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/dpulibrarian\/graphic-novels-comics\/\">graphic novel<\/a> collections allow users to unwind from the rigors of more academic pursuits and indulge in reading for pleasure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are encouraged to check out our growing collection of <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/q544y42\">videogames<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/depaul.worldcat.org\/search?q=su%3AVideo+games+Equipment+and+supplies.&amp;qt=hot_subject#x0%253Aobject-format\">consoles<\/a>.\u00a0 Games are not only fun but support the curriculum of our Computing and Digital Media Department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/library.depaul.edu\/get-help\/Pages\/learning-commons.aspx\">Learning Commons<\/a> on the first floor of John T. Richardson Library hosts tutors from partner university departments including the <a href=\"http:\/\/condor.depaul.edu\/writing\/what\/Writing%20Center\/wc.html\">Writing Center<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/careercenter.depaul.edu\/\">Career Center<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In addition to providing research help in person, by text, phone and email, librarians respond to a steady stream of <a href=\"http:\/\/library.depaul.edu\/get-help\/ask-a-librarian\/Pages\/default.aspx\">instant messages <\/a>every day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/library.depaul.edu\/services\/Pages\/Group-Study.aspx\">Group study rooms <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.depaul.edu\/mediascape\">media:scape tables<\/a> provide collaborative work spaces, a need expressed by students taking our most recent library survey.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Unique <a href=\"http:\/\/libservices.org\/contentdm\/index.php\">digital collections<\/a> make DePaul and Vincentian historical documents more accessible to researchers on campus and around the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><sup>1.
