Curious about the Maker Movement and Maker Spaces?<\/p>\n

The University Library\u2019s Maker Hub, which opened earlier this academic year, provides access to foundational maker technologies, including laser cutters, soldering irons, sewing machines, and other tools designed to support simple coding and robotics. Our 3D printers, along with a\u00a0Matter and Form 3D Scanner<\/a>,\u00a0allow almost any object to be scanned, edited, and 3D printed.<\/p>\n

These powerful technologies bring amazing possibilities, but also pose some serious questions. Some of the issues that surround the Maker Movement include:<\/p>\n

…..Are there restrictions on what can be 3D printed? Should there be? What about printing weapons? Body parts? What about intellectual property rights?
\n…..Will the Maker Movement bring with it an equal distribution of technology? Are we levelling the playing field for everyone? Will certain populations be left behind?<\/p>\n

On March 7, please join Dr. Daryl Koehn<\/a>, Philosophy Department Faculty and Managing Director of The Institute for Business and Professional Ethics<\/a>, for a talk on the ethical issues surrounding 3D Printing, make-it-yourself physical spaces, entrepreneurship, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
