{"id":901,"date":"2014-08-27T16:48:14","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T16:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/?p=901"},"modified":"2015-12-16T17:43:25","modified_gmt":"2015-12-16T17:43:25","slug":"classic-catalog-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.library.depaul.press\/full-text\/2014\/08\/27\/classic-catalog-retirement\/","title":{"rendered":"Classic Catalog Retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning on August 27th, the Library will replace links to the Classic Catalog with either the\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vufind.carli.illinois.edu\/vf-dpu\/\">DePaul\u00a0VuFind Catalog<\/a>\u00a0or <a href=\"http:\/\/depaul.worldcat.org\/\">DePaul WorldCat Local<\/a>\u00a0interfaces on all library web platforms. \u00a0We came to this decision after a lengthy review of the current state and future of the three catalog and discovery systems available to us individually as well as through our membership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carli.illinois.edu\/\">Consortium of Academic &amp; Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some key critical limitations found with the Classic Catalog\u00a0(WebVoyage version 6)\u00a0during our investigation include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A lack of ongoing technological support or enhancements for the underlying system powering the Classic Catalog by the software vendor Ex Libris<\/li>\n<li>An inability to search and discover new research resources purchased by the Library for DePaul community use<\/li>\n<li>CARLI \u00a0will no longer begin projects aimed at improving this service and is beginning a lengthy but necessary process to replace this system<br \/>\n&#8211;
