Innovative Teaching in the Library

Megan Bernal, Associate University Librarian for Information Technology and Discovery Services, will collaborate with John Shanahan, Associate Professor of English and Director of the Graduate Program in English, on the development of a new Senior Capstone course (ENG 390), “Literature in the Age of Intelligent Machines.” With support from the Thomas and Carol Dammrich Faculty Innovation Award, Shanahan and Bernal plan a course that will promote the introduction of undergraduate students into the emergent field(s) of the digital humanities, and that will be the first course to take advantage of the new resources to be made available to DePaul faculty and students through the John T. Richardson Library’s Scholar’s Lab.

The Thomas and Carol Dammrich Faculty Innovation Award was established in 2013 by Thomas J. Dammrich (BUS ’74, MBA ’78, MSA ’85) and Carol M. Dammrich (CSH ’76) in order to support faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences who “[demonstrate] innovation in the classroom.” The Scholar’s Lab is scheduled to open in Fall 2013 as part of the second phase of the renovation of the John T. Richardson Library.
