This month’s featured author from our Unwind the Mind: Popular Reading Collection is David McCullough, author most recently of The Wright Brothers. McCullough is a prolific author, lecturer, and historian. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his book John Adams and also for Truman, both of which were adapted for TV by HBO. He also won the National Book Award in 1978 for The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, and again in 1982 for Mornings on Horseback.
He has been called the “citizen chronicler” for the way he cares for the subjects of his biographies, and brings them to the page. The Wright Brothers has been called “a story of timeless importance” (Okrent), and McCullough himself sees the brothers as “infinitely inspiring not just in their work ethic, but also their great modesty…” (Williams).
