Hummons Named Spectrum Scholar

April Hummons, Circulation Desk Supervisor in the DePaul University Library’s Access Services Department, has been named a Spectrum Scholar for 2016-17 by the American Library Association.

SpectrumLogo_Green_webEstablished in 1997, the Spectrum Scholarship Program was created to promote diversity among graduate-level library school students and provides each awardee with a $5,000 scholarship, as well as mentoring and professional development opportunities. Illinois residents who are recipients of the Spectrum Scholarship may also receive a grant from the Sylvia Murphy Williams Fund, given by the Illinois Library Association.

april_crop copysmHummons has worked at the DePaul University Library for 16 years. While a full time staff member, she obtained a master’s degree in Digital Cinema and is now pursuing a second master’s degree from the Dominican University Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Hummons plans to specialize in digital services or knowledge management.

The DePaul University Library maintains an active engagement with professional education programs in the state through the provision of field experience opportunities in areas such as digital preservation and reference and instructional services, and several of our staff members have pursued graduate degrees in Library and Information Science as part of their professional development.
