The DePaul University Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment presents an award each year during its Spring Teaching and Learning Conference to the program that has conducted the best assessment project as part of DePaul’s annual assessment of student learning outcomes. This Spring, the award was given to librarians Jessica Alverson, Jennifer Schwartz, and Sue Shultz, for their work revising information literacy learning objectives (and instruction) in the School for New Learning’s Research Seminar (LL300).
The DePaul University Library has worked with the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment in recent years to completely update and revise the undergraduate information literacy learning outcomes to reflect the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, as well as the learning outcomes adopted by first-year programs, capstone projects, and other academic programs and initiatives. By pursuing new approaches to information literacy instruction in the first year, in online learning environments, and in specialized areas such as primary source instruction and information literacy instruction for digital scholarship programs, DePaul librarians work with colleagues to ensure that information literacy is a component of the “transferable skills” that our graduates take from their academic experience into their lifelong learning.
