The DePaul University Library is pleased to support a DePaul Humanities Center collaboration with Theatre Y on their new production of the Glen Berger play, Underneath the Lintel: An Impressive Presentation of Lonely Evidences. Underneath the Lintel tells the story of a Dutch librarian on an obsessive quest to find the identity of a man who returned a library book now 113 years overdue. The librarian recounts revelations made along the journey as he presents the audience with each artifact collected throughout his quest. As the librarian pieces together the puzzle, he becomes convinced he is tracking none-other than the mythical wandering Jew, who once turned away Jesus while standing in his own doorway (underneath the lintel).
The play has been produced numerous times since its first performance in 1999 at the Yale Summer Cabaret but Theatre Y’s production takes a more unconventional approach by performing the play in DePaul’s John T.
