From exorcism manuals to spooky Victorian parlor games, the DePaul University Special Collections and Archives is full of Halloween surprises. This Friday, October 28, stop by room 314 of John T. Richardson Library between 11:30am and 2:00pm to enjoy tricks and treats from DePaul’s collection of rare books. Items available to view in the reading room will include bone-chilling mystery magazines from the early 20th century, an 18th-century witchcraft trial transcript, 1950s Addams Family comics, and a fortune-telling book reportedly consulted by Napoleon Bonaparte.
Special Collections staff will be on hand to answer questions about the materials. With many other surprises in store, you won’t want to miss this fun walk through the scary side of history. Happy Halloween!
