Sr. Helen Prejean and Dead Man Walking Teaching Kit

Flyer for Stand up For Life rally held on June 27, 1987, New Orleans, Louisana

DePaul University Library’s Special Collections and Archives is pleased to announce the release of our Dead Man Walking Teaching Kit.  The kit is designed for middle and high school educators who incorporate Sr. Helen Prejean’s book,  Dead Man Walking or Tim Robbin’s play of the same title into their curriculum.  Twenty primary sources were selected from Sr. Helen Prejean’s archives collection to complement the experience for those reading or performing Dead Man Walking.  The teaching kit also includes discussion questions, short biographies of the people who created the primary sources, and links to additional resources.  The project was developed in collaboration with David Bates and John Gieger of the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program in DePaul’s College of Education.  We debuted the teaching kit during Sr. Helen’s recent visit to DePaul University on April 21, which coincided with her birthday, and she exclaimed after seeing it, that it was a “wonderful present!”
