The second floor of the John T. Richardson Library will be inaccessible throughout summer 2017, as work is completed for the next phase of the library renovation. As a result, if you wish to borrow any circulating materials housed on that floor for use during the summer, we ask you to plan ahead:
- All circulating materials currently housed on the second floor (CDs, DVDs, Curriculum Collection) checked out on or after May 15, 2017 will be due on September 11, 2017. Any request for these materials must be received by June 8, 2017. After June 9th, these materials will be unavailable for local circulation or for interlibrary loan. Many media materials may also be available through our streaming media collections.
- Select non-circulating materials currently housed on the second floor (reference books, microforms) may be placed on reserve for use over the summer on a case-by-case basis. In order to request that a non-circulating item be placed on reserve for use over the summer, please complete this form. Any request to place an item currently housed on the second floor on reserve during summer 2017 must be received by June 8, 2017. After June 9, it will no longer be possible to place these materials on reserve. Many reference materials, including dictionaries and encyclopedias, may also be available through our digital collections.
- Current print journals and bound print journals currently housed on the second floor will not be available for use during summer 2017. Thousands of journals remain accessible through our digital collections.
- Current print copies of the following newspapers will be held on the 1st floor near the Access Services desk beginning June 12: Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
We will continue to provide access to many media, microform, and journal materials during summer 2017 through our digital collections, and other materials may be accessible, in whole or in part, through interlibrary loan. If you need assistance locating resources over the summer, please contact your liaison librarian or Research Help Services.
Microform readers, media players, turntables, and other tools currently housed on the second floor will move to room 406. If you need assistance locating these resources during construction, please ask for assistance at the Richardson Library Access Services Desk.
