Despite being physically closed due to COVID-19, the DePaul University Library Interlibrary Loan Department is committed to making our transition from physical to digital materials as seamless as possible for our patrons. We are taking advantage of current and new opportunities afforded to us by publishers and other copyright holders to maintain and even elevate our support for you in your academic goals.
We recommend checking first to see if your item is available through our online databases and e-resources. You can search for the title in our permanent collection using WordCat Discovery, or it might be available in one of the new temporary resources we have access to during the COVID-19 pandemic. If the item is available online, you will be able to access it by clicking “View Full Text.” If that option is not available, click the title and scroll down to “Request via interlibrary loan.” Our Interlibrary Loan Department will then reach out to other libraries to request an electronic copy be sent to your interlibrary loan account.
Our most frequent interlibrary loan requests to be successfully filled are book chapters and articles. These items require no physical interaction and are delivered more quickly because they are sent to us electronically or directly to your interlibrary loan account. There are a few vendors that have made some full-text e-books available, but this is still very limited. We will continue to request e-books, but requesting individual chapters has a better chance of being filled by other libraries.
If you currently have an interlibrary loan item checked out, please do not try to return it. We are working with lenders to extend the due dates through this period, and there will be no penalties applied to your interlibrary loan account. Please secure the item(s) until you are notified that we are able to accept returns.
We plan to remain proactive in taking measures to protect the health and safety of our university community, and we look forward to serving you and continuing our full support in your academic endeavors. Please do not hesitate to visit our website if you have questions or any concerns.
